Music…Vibrates in the memory—

Updated: Jan 20, 2023

“Music…Vibrates in the memory—" wrote Percy Shelley in a very melancholy love poem, but (forgive me Percy) I am recontextualizing, recycling, and repurposing your words.

The music from Long Island Stage’s first season does vibrate in my memory and in others’ too. In April, May, and September 2021, the Stage streamed live music performances to viewers, when theater stages were dark, and deserted. We created virtual stages and showcased many of the musical styles that thrive on Long Island: folk, funk, rock, alternative, electro-pop, and even a dollop of jazz. Original works crafted in our backyard were the centerpieces. Of course, one doesn’t need to rely on memories because each of the season’s shows is archived here on our website: free to view or revisit.

Welcome Season 2

We are back, right now, building the next showcase series of Long Island Stage, and thrilled to be in partnership with The Suffolk Theater in Riverhead. Season 2 shows will be both on stage and streamed live on three consecutive Thursdays in March 2023.

We are pleased to have traded green screens for the chance to present performances in this beautifully restored 1930s art deco jewel box theater with its great acoustics. The Suffolk also offers a unique blend of stage-front cabaret table seating and additional orchestra or balcony row seating. The theater also boasts two bars and is the only theater on the island with its own kitchen. Get ready for a full-on sensory experience.

While this partnership is brand new, Long Island Stage’s original mission remains the same: to offer promotional support, resources, and performance opportunities for emerging artists. One such resource being carried over from Season 1 is the free high-definition audio and video recording all performers will receive. Typically, video productions can be prohibitively expensive but are valuable for ongoing self-promotion. Long Island Stage is happy to provide this service. With the Suffolk Theater as the setting, the results will be remarkable. See you soon!
